The purpose of ARS Ceramics Centre is to develop ceramics art and design and to mediate technological knowhow and expertise to professional artists and public. Workshops and courses take place all year around.
About workshop
ARS Ceramics Centre offers a porcelain workshop by experienced artist and adult educator Merike Hallik. Workshop offers insight into the world on porcelain and is suitable for beginners and advanced level ceramicist who have not dabbled with porcelain.
Workshop in detail
Workshop takes place in steps:
- Introduction into different techniques and porcelain types Technique demonstration Introduction takes 1.5 hours
- A break for 30 minutes; ARS cafe offers lunch during weekdays
- Semiporcelain mass modelling Rolling of a porcelain sheet and applying surface relief Making a bowl Finished objects will be glazed with a transparent glaze and will be burned by the educator. Modelling takes 1.5 hours
Participants can make a porcelain bowl, a platter or a vase with different surface textures It will take about 3 to 4 weeks to complete the objects
Preregistering by Thursday between 14:00–17:30 or Saturday between 12:00–15:30.
Educator
Merike Hallik has a ceramics MA degree from Estonian Academy of Arts. She has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous domestic and international exhibitions. She gets inspiration from nature. Long-term teaching of children and adults has given her also a certificate in andragogy.
